Shiloh Baptist Church wanted to expand its program of community-based outreach services and make use of vacant and boarded up properties. The Shiloh properties are located on 9th Street NW between P and Q Streets in the heart of the Shaw Historic District in Washington, DC. The vacant buildings in question were eight two-story plus basement row houses. These houses had masonry exterior walls, wood framing, and wood floors. All of these buildings were boarded up, unused and in poor condition. Extensive repairs and renovations were required to bring the buildings into code compliance. The campus of buildings now includes senior housing, expanded day care services, youth services ministry, an education ministry, and expanded church administrative offices.
