LBA was tasked with the design of From the Heart Church Ministries’ new church building. LBA has completed the Pre-Design Phase, which included gaining clarity on the actual programmatic needs of the church and appreciating how the church functions. This phase consisted of visiting the site and the interior of the building, performing an existing conditions survey, producing existing conditions drawings, finalizing the space program and space relationships, and developing alternate conceptual design options for review. LBA then created a written program and translated it into scaled drawings whereby each program space could be seen with its desired relationships and functionality.

LBA is currently in the process of the conceptual design of the renovation and addition to the old Levitz Furniture Building located on Allentown Road in Suitland, MD. The building is an approximately 180,000 square foot building with precast concrete panel cladding. It is primarily a one-story structure with a very high ceiling. This spacious volume is ideal for the proposed eventual 7,000-seat sanctuary. This sanctuary will allow all current members from two separate locations to worship at the one time. It will be configured with a gentle floor slope to maximize sight lines for all who attend. Interior columns will be minimized in order to achieve optimum viewing of the worship service.

Sustainable Design is a focus on this project; one way LBA is going green is by adding a low albedo roof which will absorb water, and reflect sunlight, thus prolonging life and saving the client in the long run.

The project has, and will, require coordination with: Prince George’s County DER, WSSC, Prince George’s County SCD, Maryland State Department of the Environment, the zoning board, and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning.
